The broad mandate of the ministry is to fulfill the development of women and children. As the nodal ministry for the progress of women and children, the Ministry creates plans, policies and programs; Improves the changes in the laws, manuals and co-ordination of both government and non-governmental organizations working in the field of women and child development. In addition, by playing its nodal role, the Ministry enforces specific new programs for women and children. These programs cover welfare and support services, training for employment and income generation, awareness generation and gender sensitivity. These programs play supplementary and supplementary role in other general developmental programs in the areas of health, education, rural development etc. All these efforts are done to ensure that women empower both economically and socially and thus become equal partners with national development.
The Women and Child Development Department was established in 1985 as a part of Human Resource Development, in which a very encouraging motive was given for the overall development of women. The children have implementation, section 30.01.2006
The management of the Women and Child Development Ministry is Mrs. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, minister; Shri Shankar Agrawal Secretary and Shri A.B.
